Events -- fundraising for freedom

Events pack

Anti-Slavery International has developed an events pack for supporters and members who want to organise their own fundraising or campaigning events. Fundraising for Freedom is packed with useful tips and information, including on how we can help make your event a success.

Anti-Slavery International has also teamed up with justgiving.com so all our events participants can raise money quickly and easily online with their own personalised webpages.

Friends and family will be able to donate online with a credit or debit card - so no more running around with paper sponsorship forms, or chasing cheques and cash after your event. Cape Town to London cycle challenge

Braving temperatures that reached over 40°C, deserts without roads and sand storms, recent graduates Nick Stanhope, Rebecca Gowland and Rob Hadman cycled from Cape Town, South Africa to London, with their support driver and photographer Jonathan Felix and Jonny Polonsky.
Throughout the six-month challenge they met people who had been in slavery and some of our partners, and raised over £30,000 for our work.

Liberty Ball

After hearing that slavery still exists, Anna Cofone and Ruth Powys held a photo exhibition and a ball in support of Anti-Slavery International, raising £12,500 towards our work against slavery around the world. Guests enjoyed an exciting array of entertainment ranging from fire-eaters to international music performances, and an auction that included a scarf from Linda McCartney's personal collection, tickets to TV's Pop Idol and photographs of freedom donated by over 20 photographers.

Drum wake

Local supporter Rakesh Parmar organised a drum wake to mark the continuing fight against modern forms of slavery, raising £618 towards our work. Up to 20 drummers took to the stage at the Music Café in Leicester -- a city with strong links to the 19th century abolitionist movement.

Three decades of support from Exmouth

Graham Martin from Exmouth raised nearly £2,000 at his 30th annual Anti-Slavery International garden party in July 2008. The event involved live music and food and attracted scores of people.

Marathon effort in New York for Anti-Slavery

Many thanks to John Whybrow from London for raising nearly £1,500 by running the New York Marathon in November 2008. John who works for MTV decided to raise the money after working on the MTV Exit campaign, raising awareness about trafficking around the world
