speakers

Anti-Slavery International speakers are available across the UK to give workshops and presentations to students aged 8–18 and university students. Sessions explore historical slavery, contemporary slavery, campaigning and Anti-Slavery International’s work and encourages students to become involved in the fight to eradicate modern day slavery.

We deliver presentations suitable for assemblies or other large group settings (up to 45 minutes), and workshops suitable for the classroom or other small group settings (up to one hour or all day workshops).

Sessions are based around Anti-Slavery International educational resources, Recovered Histories, The Changing Face of Slavery, When Rights are Left and Our News Our Views and can be specifically designed to cover a range of topic:

•    What is contemporary slavery?

•    What is the link between slavery, discrimination and poverty

•    How can young people join in the campaign to end modern day slavery

•    What are the legacies of the Transatlantic Slave Trade in a globalised world?

•    What is the link between contemporary slavery and trade?

Every school that books a talk will receive a free copy of the Recovered Histories education pack which provides lesson plans and guidance notes for those teaching the Transatlantic Slave Trade at Key Stage Three History as well as a copy of an exhibition.

•    Sessions can be tailored for pupils from 8 to 18 years old

•    Suitable for work across the curriculum – especially Geography, Citizenship and PSHE, History and English

•    Advice on sources of support for further work on slavery and human rights work – including local Development Education Centres and  UNESCO Associated Schools.

Please Note:

Anti-Slavery International’s  child protection policy dictates that School Speakers must be supervised by a teacher at all times. Teachers should be responsible for managing pupils’ behaviour during assemblies and workshops.
The school will be requested to cover travel expenses for schools outside the London area.
